The Not Going Back Option…

“Indeed, I have been crucified with Christ. My ego is no longer central. It is no longer important I appear righteous before you or have your good opinion, and I am no longer driven to impress God. Christ lives in me. The life you see me living is not “mine” but it is lived by faith in the Son of God, who love me and gave himself for me. I am not going to go back on that.” Galatians 2:20-21 MSG

There is a real battle everyday. Some days are quiet with little distractions. Others are filled with a seemingly endless assault on your thoughts ..  your image of yourself .. your fear of others .. and the internal condemnation that you aren’t “doing enough”. The battles take on different shapes in your life. They are shaped from family history .. growing-up memories .. successes and failures .. self-centered disguises .. selfishness and good intentions .. other’s expectations .. more often than not: a wrong view about God. When Christ is the living foundation of your life, you slowly begin to realize that while the battle is real .. His life is your only reality. He begins to lift the burden of trying to impress God .. impress yourself .. and impress others. You begin to realize that it is His life that “makes your life worth living.” All those other things you used to seek for meaning begin to fade against the very promises that drove you. The pressures and struggles in your everyday life are real .. but now it is Christ-living-in-you who brings a freedom you cannot describe apart from Him. The choice to go back to the old-way-of-life is ever present. It’s tempting to try and resuscitate parts that seemed to work okay. You may even be successful for a time. Does it mean everything about your past life was bad .. contaminated .. and worthless.? No. It means you aren’t trying to make life work on your terms anymore. You’re letting Christ be your life. You don’t have to grip everything so tight. It’s not up to you any longer. Faith becomes more than a word .. it becomes a way of life .. God-filled .. Christ-alive .. no-longer-you first. It only takes a moment …

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
