Promise or Pressure..?

March 8, 2016

“So, friends, we can now—without hesitation—walk right up to God, into “the Holy Place.” Jesus has cleared the way by the blood of his sacrifice, acting as our priest before God. The “curtain” into God’s presence is his body. So let’s do it—full of belief, confident that we’re presentable inside and out. Let’s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word…” Hebrews 10:19-23 MSG

What an amazing fact that starts your everyday: You are completely “presentable inside and out” before God through Jesus. That one item missing from so many lives causes so much heartache and anxiety everyday. Jesus has cleared the way for your life .. and cleared the way for you to live all out for Him. That is His unbreakable promise that you can hold onto today. The temptation to add to His promise by trying to make this world “fit” into Christ’s promise is very real. You are probably aware of just those places in your life where you are gripping something else and realize how difficult it is to let go. Praise God that He does not let go. He is a housecleaning God. He’ll go room by room inside your heart and mind. He knows exactly how much pressure to exert .. exactly where His Spirit is cleansing .. and exactly how to reconcile all the areas of your past, present, and future. The pressure is not on you to figure out how to do it. The promise is yours to trust in the Lord’s gracious work in you. How much anxiety is created when we try to convince God how to work in our lives .. rather than trust Him and adjust our lives to the good work He has promised to do in us? His promise offers rest. Self-determined pressure creates restlessness. What a gift that Christ offers you today: a cleared way through His life .. a completely presentable life inside and out .. and His word that God won’t quit or give up on you. It only takes a moment …

“For God is not an indifferent bystander. He’s actively cleaning house, torching all that needs to burn, and he won’t quit until it’s all cleansed. God himself is Fire!” Hebrews 12:29 MSG

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
