Missing pieces …

March 29, 2016

“In face-to-face meetings, he talked to them about things concerning the kingdom of God. As they met and ate meals together, he told them that they were on no account to leave Jerusalem but “must wait for what the Father promised: the promise you heard from me. John baptized in water; you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit. And soon.” Acts 1:3-5 MSG

You were born with a piece missing: the Father’s promise. That is the piece that makes you whole on the inside regardless of what is happening on the outside. It is the promise that you are your Father’s love, delight, and possession. You hear your name through His Spirit .. calling you .. guiding you .. calming and comforting you .. helping you “wait” in a wait-less world. Jesus spoke about his Father’s kingdom and your place in it. His death and resurrection secured your true home address. And yet, there is that piece in you that must be filled .. made whole .. that makes you real. It’s His promise. It’s the promise you know you need more than anything and more often than not cannot put it into words. You try to find it on the outside .. achieving .. and trying to harness anxiety into something productive .. hoping you’ll hear His promise. Jesus tells each of us that we have to “wait”. That happens at different times for each of us. But His promise carries the power of His Spirit .. something so holy it changes everything inside of you. The same power that raised Jesus is now in you. How can that be? How could God pour out His Spirit so extravagantly in you. Because He promised. And you become His presence: a witness of the inexhaustible .. unfathomable .. unexplainable .. but undeniable grace of His Son. Jesus rescued you from  uimaginable places. Places where you were stuck in your mind .. Places you were stuck in habits .. and Places where you hope others never find out. But it doesn’t matter anymore. You’re His witness .. a life where He lives with real power .. abiding and available for everything you will face today. It only takes a moment …

“…You don’t get to know the time. Timing is the Father’s business. What you’ll get is the Holy Spirit. And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the world.” Acts 1:7-8 MSG

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
