“Answer this question: Does the God who lavishly provides you with his own presence, his Holy Spirit, working things in your lives you could never do for yourselves, does he do these things because of your strenuous moral striving or because you trust him to do them in you?” Galatians 3:5 MSG
It’s the question you face everyday. God isn’t forcing anything on you. He’s offering you the life you long for in a life-stealing world. But He’s not watching from the sidelines or waiting in the heavens. Jesus has already laid out the Father’s plans: to send you His Spirit to come alongside .. a holy comforter .. friend .. and Spirit of truth. You quickly realize that everything that has to do with God is holy. And He alone knows how His Spirit is working in you. You may face hundreds of choices today .. seen and unseen. Some of them you’ve made over and over without giving them a thought or consideration. But now, Christ has moved in and you are faced with His life in your everyday choices. All of this is founded on trust: that God keeps his word .. that God is faithful .. and that Jesus is alive in you. It doesn’t matter what others do or don’t do around you. The question is whether you are going to trust God’s gracious gift or trust in yourself. If you choose you, God isn’t going to abandon you or “move out”. His Spirit will gently and in-grace seek to guide your steps .. shape your thoughts .. and assure your heart of living today in the life that Christ wants to live in you. It doesn’t always fit easily in this world. There are too many distractions .. objects that promise to make life easier .. and a constantly changing menu of temptations and false gods. God’s promise is made for your everyday living. He’s faithful for what’s ahead in your life. It’s been that way a long time .. all the way back to Abraham. It’s the same question for today … and it only takes a moment.
” And now, because of that, the air is cleared and we can see that Abraham’s blessing is present and available for non-Jews, too. We are all able to receive God’s life, his Spirit, in and with us by believing—just the way Abraham received it.” Galatians 3:14 MSG
