Grace linguists …

“From now on, think of it this way: Sin speaks a dead language that means nothing to you; God speaks your mother tongue, and you hang on every word. you are dead to sin and alive to God. That’s what Jesus did.” Romans 6:11 MSG

Life in Christ includes learning a new language. Before Christ, your view of the world was shaped by everything broken: families .. education .. relationships .. possessions .. accomplishments .. and trying to fill the inside of your life with the “outside”.  It was never all that simple. A lot of choices .. good and bad .. went into how you looked at life .. at how you wanted to live .. at how you wanted to be loved .. and who you wanted to love. The world you live in wants you comfortable and conformed to its language. It tries to persuade you with defining any choice you make as being acceptable. It pressures you to accept everything on the outside as being permissible. And it will punish you with exclusion and rejection if you fail to agree to it’s terms and conditions. Sin by it’s very nature wants to hide .. to deceive .. and to just blend in around your world. It resists definition. It produces death everywhere it is allowed to grow. It reproduces heartache .. brokenness .. shame .. anxiety .. and a defeated you. Without Christ, you could never learn a new language not grounded in sin. Grace is His vocabulary. At first the words don’t fit the world you live in. It’s hard to see the shape of Jesus-words in the noise and confusion of today. But it is the only language that makes sense to you in Christ. Jesus is the one who took you once-sin-dead-life and made it alive in Him. It was His words and work that cleaned you up on the inside and given you a new language for life. This world no longer has a claim on you … Christ does. It only takes a moment ..

“Since we’ve compiled this long and sorry record as sinners (both us and them) and proved that we are utterly incapable (“all have sinned”) of living the glorious lives God wills for us, God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ.” Romans 3:23-24 MSG

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
