Staying put …

May 3, 2016

“Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love.” John 15:9 NASB

Jesus knows exactly where you “abide’ .. where you heart leans during the day .. where your mind is focused .. and where you draw your strength. His words to his disciples and to us could not be any clearer: we are to love in such a way that people recognize that we follow Christ. There must be something unique about His love because no other entity claims such distinction and identity. People will recognize who you follow by how you love.  Jesus knows exactly how difficult that calling really is for your life. There are unrelenting distractions and attractions that try to syphon your heart away from Him. The world is relentless in it’s assault to re-define love. Jesus warns us of all those side roads .. and more. He doesn’t ask you to “remain” .. “stay put” .. or “abide in” in something. He calls you and even commands you to “abide in His love”. That means He wants you to experience His love everyday. It is both truth and feeling. His life and His love will order your lives if you will “abide in” His love. There is no equal.  Jesus spoke personally: He lived in His Father’s love. He loved his disciples the same way and He loves you exactly the same way that the Father loved Him. Yes.. you will notice a cross. It cleared away all the false lovers who held power over you once.  It allows love to have “the run of the house”.  It reminds you everyday how much Christ loved you and is loving you at this moment. He’s very clear because He knows how real is the Father’s love. He’s clear because He knows what is the deepest longing of your life: to be loved by the Father and the Son. He calls .. invites .. and commands you to abide in His love.  That’s where Christ is. He’s not leaving.  It only takes a moment…

God is love. When we take up permanent residence in a life of love, we live in God and God lives in us. This way, love has the run of the house, becomes at home and mature in us, so that we’re free of worry on Judgment Day — our standing in the world is identical with Christ’s.” 1John4:17 Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
