Pigs feet and pleasing others ..

May 10, 2016

“So Jesus got back in the boat and set off. The man whom he had delivered from the demons asked to go with him, but he sent him back, saying, “God home and tell everything God did in you.” So he went back and preached all over town everything Jesus had done in him,” Luke 8:38-39 Message

His life was a mess. The noise in his head was unceasing. He wasn’t himself and he was worn out trying to find something to make life work. When Jesus set him free, he only wanted to go where Jesus was going. But instead, Jesus sent him home to share about everything God had “done in him”. That’s your story and mission: to share what God has done in you. Another man came to end of himself chasing down Jesus stories. He thought it was his mission. Instead, Jesus gave him a mission with a Cross. Every time he was tempted to claim credit or boast about his accomplishments, the Cross consumed anything that pointed at him. He had the same story as mob-driven man. It’s the same Cross today. People who are worn out find their their lives put together at this Cross. Lives torn apart find healing at this Cross. Everything true about your life points to this Cross. All the pressures to please everyone’s expectations evaporate at this Cross. All the soul-wearying anxieties to fit in dissolve at this Cross. The Cross finds lives hidden in plain sight and frees lives driven by anger, shame, and hate. It’s message hasn’t changed and Jesus still drives pigs over hills and changes lives going in all kinds of directions. So if you are going to boast today … start at the Cross .. the message will point away from you ..  toward Jesus who still frees men and women with this same Cross. It only takes a moment …

“For my part, I am going to boast about nothing but the Cross of our Master, Jesus Christ. Because of that Cross, I have been crucified in relation to the world, set free from the stifling atmosphere of pleasing others and fitting into the little patterns that they dictate.” Galatians 6:14 Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
