Jesus..The well digger (6)

“It’s who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. God is sheer being itself—Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.” John 4:23-24 The Message

All He asked for was a drink of water. In return He offered her “endless life”. She came to that spot because no one would be there. She came to that spot because she didn’t have the emotional capital to fight off the condemning glances .. the dismissive sneer.. and the begrudging acceptance. She came to that spot because God had made an appointment. Jesus knew enough about her life .. just like He does your life .. to point out some of the baggage you carry around. He doesn’t say it to condemn you. He says it to help you let go of carrying such a burdensome secret. And what does He do next? He invites you to become your “true self .. simply and honestly yourself in worship”. Why do we let so much baggage .. past accusations .. and false veneers determine the course of our hearts? Jesus met a Samaritan woman at a well. What if He met you today at a certain spot? How would you answer his question: “Are you being your true self before me?” “Is there anything in the way? ” The cross excavates every hidden thing in your life. There is nothing buried that isn’t exposed and carried off. What you are left with is a Jesus-dug life filled with absolute acceptance and unending adoration. It is for now .. not later. It only takes a moment …

“The woman said, “I don’t know about that. I do know that the Messiah is coming. When he arrives, we’ll get the whole story.”  “I am he,” said Jesus. “You don’t have to wait any longer or look any further.”” John 4:25-26 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
