Before Jesus prayed .. He promised

June 16, 2016

If you love me, show it by doing what I’ve told you. I will talk to the Father, and he’ll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you. This Friend, is the Spirit of Truth.” John 14:15– The Message

Jesus didn’t leave you to work out your life on our own. God’s not waiting for you to do your part. He’s not testing you to see if you are worthy. He’s not giving you a grace-period. He’s giving you grace … period! And behind that grace is His presence and promise.  He could have left a list of rules: spiritual do’s and don’ts. Instead, He left you His Spirit. He left you “well and whole”. It takes His Spirit .. Holy .. working in the deepest places of your heart to make all that He says real! Sometimes it feels like it takes forever to grab hold of His promise. And sometimes His words begin to form in your heart .. take shape in your life .. and you find yourself standing in a freedom you could never realize without Jesus. He left you a Friend .. Someone so close that you would know that you would never be alone again. But living in this broken world can leave you feeling alone and sometimes abandoned. That’s the fruit of a fallen world. So He sends His Spirit to live in you … to move in … to make His home in you .. to abide in you .. and remind you of who you are in Christ .. and who Christ is in you.  The Holy Spirit doesn’t try to live a visible life .. but a life that reveals Christ-in-you. He works to make real in you the reality of what the cross became for you. You didn’t earn it. You don’t win it. You can’t work to keep it. It’s the gift of His promise: so you won’t be alone. He always keeps His word. It only takes a moment …

“I’m telling you these things while I’m still living with you. The Friend, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will make everything plain to you. He will remind you of all the things I have told you. I’m leaving you well and whole.” John 14:25-26 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
