Starting off right …

July 14, 2016

“If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care— then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends.” Philippians 2:1-2 Message

What an agenda awaits your day .. today! When you begin with the knowledge and trust of what Christ has done in your life .. then you can face this day with a grace-shaped heart. Your first thought isn’t about protecting yourself but in preparing to serve others in His Spirit. The world you live in does not want a community of Christ-followers living in agreement .. coming together in love .. and learning how to live as “deep-spirited friends”. That kind of life threatens the darkness of divisions .. distrust .. and despair. Much of the world you will see today runs on such brokenness. But you’ve been called to something higher .. the way of Jesus. Today isn’t about you: it’s about helping others. You’ll face those moments when it would seem natural and maybe expected that you would seek your own advantage. It may be a temptation. It may even be celebrated or envied by friends. But today isn’t about you. Jesus invites you to “lend a helping hand”. It probably won’t be of your choosing .. because Christ is leading your steps. And if it is your choosing .. then quietly surrender your heart so you won’t be entangled with you. This is real work .. the work of the cross .. living as a community .. loving deeply .. being friends through grace. This is the way of Jesus living through you … It only takes a moment …

“Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.” Philippians 2:3-4 Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
