The way it works with Jesus

September 5, 2016

“Peter said, “I don’t have a nickel to my name, but what I do have, I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk!” He grabbed him by the right hand and pulled him up. In an instant his feet and ankles became firm. He jumped to his feet and walked.” Acts 3:6-8 Message

He has never taken step in his life. The only thing he knew was that somebody was going to have to pick him up and carry him everyday. And maybe someone or a few others might toss a few coins his way. The bottom of hope is begging. His spot was just outside the area where everyone entered for worship. How many times had he prayed for healing .. for God’s help? If only …? And then God showed up through a former Savior-denier turned Truth-proclaimer named Peter. He gave the disabled man everything he had to his name … the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. It was all he ever wanted anyway …he just didn’t know how to ask. But knew how to answer. And the incredible gift of Jesus is that his life is never too crowded for another life to walk .. to see .. to trust .. to receive .. to heal .. to forgive .. to restore .. and lift up. You don’t just “get” a little piece of Jesus with faith. You get the only thing available: all of Him living in all of you. He doesn’t move in and suddenly start critiquing the state of your life. He does what only Jesus the Redeemer .. Reclaimer .. and Restorer always does. He opens your eyes and your heart to just how uncrowded his life really is amidst all the crowdedness and fractures inside of you. Jesus knows exactly what his life means inside of you today. His name is found at every doorway of your life: attitudes .. habits .. schedules .. expectations .. and longings. He gives life to those bankrupt of hope .. those running on empty .. and those wondering if God really can love them with all their flaws .. failings .. and fears. It’s His specialty … and He only takes a moment …

“So spacious is he, so roomy, that everything of God finds its proper place in him without crowding. Not only that, but all the broken and dislocated pieces of the universe — people and things, animals and atoms — get properly fixed and fitted together in vibrant harmonies, all because of his death, his blood that poured down from the cross.” Colossians 1:19-20 Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
