You’re really old …if

September 14, 2016

“We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go. It’s an unbreakable spiritual lifeline, reaching past all appearances right to the very presence of God where Jesus, running on ahead of us, has taken up his permanent post as high priest for us, in the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 6:18-20 The Message

You’re  old .. and that’s a good thing!  What makes your life so real is something so old inside of you. The real you .. is really very young. But inside you is a faith so old it stretches back to Melchizedek .. a really old guy by now .. who is still  worshipping the Lord. You’ll meet him one day because you’ve taken hold of something unbreakable .. God’s promise .. His covenant .. a barn-born baby .. a man on a cross with your name etched into His heart. What you are facing today is no different than a thousand years ago. The thousand-year-old you would still be facing the same choices as today to follow Jesus. It will never be easy. The struggles and pressures upon your life .. the lonely times .. the tempting times .. and those moments when you say no without any fanfare because the Holy Spirit is leading you to walk by faith and not your own way. Your life is part of God’s story  .. a redeeming story .. a fresh start story .. a clean slate story .. a broken into wholeness story .. and more to come. When you find yourself flagging .. creeping doubt .. wondering if ……. then “fix your eyes on Jesus” … He’s the One who knows the beginning and the end. He’s the only one whose grip will not let go or slip if you do. That faith in you…? It’s a really old promise. And it only takes a moment ….

“Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!” Hebrews 12:2-3 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
