When you wake up in a ditch….

September 15, 2016

“A Samaritan traveling the road came on him. When he saw the man’s condition, his heart went out to him. He gave him first aid. disinfecting and bandaging his wounds. Then he lifted him onto his donkey, led him to an inn, and made him comfortable. In the morning he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, “Take good care of him. If it costs any more, put it on my bill — I’ll pay you on my way back.”” Luke 10:33-35 The Message

It doesn’t take much to end up discarded, bruised and beat up, and upside down in a ditch. You can spend a lot of your life just trying to avoid the unexpected or minimizing the possibilities of it finding you or your family. But it happens .. everyday .. in this angry-fueled world. Jesus will approach you like a “Samaritan” ..  someone familiar with suffering and rejection .. a man who knows what people look like when they are helpless and out of answers. God seems to go out of His way to find you when you end up in a ditch. He finds you .. His heart goes out to you .. and He spends all the time needed to address your wounds. If you’ve ever been deeply wounded you know what it looks like to resist being helped .. being touched .. and letting someone “dress” your wounds. You’re suspicious and guarded because you don’t have any way to defend yourself. Jesus never leaves you alone with your own problems to solve. He steps in those very places where we’re alone .. abandoned .. and alienated in our pain and problems. It doesn’t matter to Him how long it takes for his grace to become the healing bandage in your heart. There’s no one like Jesus when it comes to taking all the time you need  to find hope .. help .. and healing. He never leaves you feeling condemned or consumed with how you’re going to pay Him back? He’s come for you .. that’s all that matters .. and He’s covered it in full. It only takes a moment …

“Jesus said, “Today is salvation day in this home! Here he is: Zacchaeus, son of Abraham! For the Son of Man came to find and restore the lost.” Luke 19:10 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
