A few minutes on a hillside …

“You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule … You’re blessed when you get your inside world — your mind and heart –put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.” Matthew 5:3,8 The Message

Jesus pulls back the curtain so you can see what is valued in the kingdom. He describes what your life looks like when “you’re at the end of your rope” .. and what true health looks like “when you get your inside world .. put right”. His disciples had to learn it .. then pass is along to others. Their whole worlds were turned upside down because Jesus travelled to the ends of your rope. It usually takes us some time to realize and experience the gift of His words: “you’re blessed”. You find Him at those places where you’re exhausted .. worn out from trying to make life work .. and finally ready to quit being in control. You’ll probably come to the end of many ropes in your life. Jesus will never quit describing what your life will become if you follow Him. The Holy Spirit will keep speaking these words over and over into your life. He knows exactly when you are ready to hear .. receive .. and open your eyes. Just what is at the end of your rope? Nail-scarred hands ready to help you on your feet .. restore your mind .. and renew your heart. The outside world doesn’t place much value on nail-scarred hands and feet. It easily discards people who’ve run out of rope … and celebrates those who lose their hearts and minds to this broken-world. Jesus didn’t describe a life that was forged by itself. He describes what your life will look forged in grace. It’s a new beginning .. “a fresh start .. a clean slate” .. and a life found in God’s indefatigable grip. It only takes a moment …

“With these qualities active and growing in your lives, no grass will grow under your feet, no day will pass without reward as you mature in your experience of our Master Jesus.” 2 Peter 1:8 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
