Getting dressed …

May 9, 2017

“So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” Colossians 3:12 New American Standard

Have you ever looked in your closet and found Christ’s wardrobe folded or hanging there waiting for you? What if you wrote those words down and hung them visibly in your closet and they met you every morning? You’re reminded that your heart and soul need your attention everyday. The Lord doesn’t force you. He doesn’t condemn you or criticize you if you go running out the door “half-dressed” for His plans for you. That’s what is so amazing about this life in Christ: You have all the freedom to put on a heart filled with the fullness of Jesus .. a heart that belongs to Him but beats for you. And the heart that Jesus gives you is new and complete. It’s not damaged by pains inflicted or received. It doesn’t erect invisible barriers to protect it from being hurt. It carries the gentle sound of His voice saying: “I hold on and I don’t let go”. That is the heart that God wants you to put on today. A heart chosen that chooses freely to follow Jesus and lives the same way. A WW1 YMCA desert chaplain described Christ followers as having “a strong family likeness to Jesus and freedom from everything unlike him”. How will you be dressed today? Whatever carries His label is stain-free .. never fades .. and lasts forever. Chosen .. holy .. and beloved. It’s written on your heart. It flows through your blood. It’s who you are in Christ. It only takes a moment …

“Every person the Father gives me eventually comes running to me. And once that person is with me, I hold on and don’t let go”. John 6:37 Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
