An Undivided Life …

May 19, 2017

“Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name.” Ps. 86:11 New American Standard

Jesus had one prayer for your life: that His life would be seen in your life as the Same Life. His indwelling life is to be your defining identity. That truth has a way of un-cluttering your life.  His life and actions revealed what God was really like with broken lives and almost always imperfect situations. Jesus lived an “everyday offering” kind of life. He invited his disciples to follow along .. observe .. take part in .. ask questions .. and finally be sent out in the same relationship Jesus had with His Father. It seems so easy “back then”. All they had to do was leave home .. leave jobs .. and leave behind any daily way to provide for themselves. Yep .. pretty easy back then. Two thousand years later His life feels more complicated .. the choices more daunting .. conflicting with  the longing in our hearts and minds to live simpler and deeper. You know that most of what this world presents as living is a lie. David prayed for a life of truth and an undivided heart. He knew that was the best path for his life. It still is. And where does Jesus fit in all this? He hears the cry .. the ache .. and the longing of your heart and is already at work replacing that chokehold grip with a grip of grace. Grace is just as strong … it just won’t leave you fatigued .. depleted .. and disconnected from following Jesus. You don’t have to guess what God wants for you: an inside out changed heart .. God’s best for you .. and a life that looks like Jesus. It only takes a moment …

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” Romans 12:1-2 Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
