Stopping on the road … letting go

June 26, 2017

“God the Master, the Holy One of Israel, has this solemn counsel. “Your salvation requires you to turn back to me and stop your silly efforts to save yourselves. Your strength will come from settling down in complete dependence on me — The very thing you’ve been unwilling to do.” Isaiah 30:15 The Message

Repentance: “to turn back to me and stop your silly efforts to save yourselves”. What a gift this really is from the Lord. If you could never turn back because you thought there was no way the Lord would take you back? Life would be miserable. If you expend all your energies to trying to save yourself .. manage your world , and think you can arrange life on your schedule? You’ll just end up exhausted .. never rested .. never able to stop. Why? Because you have to be on top of everything or it all crumbles. Maybe not this moment .. but it will. Thankfully, God doesn’t hide His heart or help. He invites you .. guarantees you that you will find rest when you stop living independently from Him. What does that look like? It looks like you going at a “can’t-stop pace”  .. never really breathing in draughts of fresh air. It means not letting your soul rest. It is a Spirit-less lived life on the inside and frenetic pace on the outside suggesting urgency and focus. The Lord knows us well. He knows your tendency to increase the pace .. running harder in hopes of reaping a reward  .. giving up too soon because you didn’t ask .. and your simple habit of not living dependent upon Jesus. And where is God? He’s there .. been there the whole time .. longing for you to return .. to stop .. to find your strength in quiet trust. He’s stored mercy by the gallons with your name on it .. just waiting to pour it all into your heart and soul. The Lord wants you whole and “on our feet” in His name. He wants the world to see a difference because of His Son. You are to be that evidence in the world you live in. Do you need to return? Do you need to stop? It only takes a moment …

“Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you, For the Lord is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him.” Isaiah 30:18 New American Standard

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
