“But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.” Galatians 5:22-23 The Message
Here’s the thing about Jesus: When His life begins to bring you to life .. real life .. you find yourself wanting another way. It doesn’t happen all at once.(what He did happened all at once) A day? A month? Years? You begin to feel and realize a depth and substance in your life that you know can only be there because of Christ. Some changes happen quickly like letting go of a nagging habit or finding forgiveness where there was a toxic grudge. That frees you up to experience more of Christ. That’s all His doing in you. Compassion grows where you never thought possible. You begin to live with a conviction .. the courage to trust .. that God’s ways are not your ways. It was a thought before and now it is something solid growing in you. Grace becomes the wildest journey in your life. Maybe the hardest place is commitments: it involves others who may indeed leave scars or disappointments. And again you find yourself amazed that you don’t have to have your way any longer. Jesus is carrying all that stuff. You’re left to breathe in praise and realize time and time again that the Lord has “met me more than halfway”. Life looks and feels a holy difference when Christ is at work in you. The difference is now His work is where He lives. It only takes a moment ..
“I bless God every chance I get; my lungs expand with his praise. I live and breathe God; if things aren’t going well, hear this and be happy: Join me in spreading the news; together let’s get the word out. God met me more than halfway, he freed me from my anxious fears.” Palm 34:1-4 The Message
