“Arriving at a quiet place, he sat down and taught his climbing companions(disciples). This is what he said: “You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule. You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.” Matt. 5:2-4 The Message

Why would Jesus make time for you? Because He knows exactly what you are dealing with in your life. He knows what your end-of-the-rope life looks like .. and He knows what is most dear to you. One of the great things about Jesus is that He doesn’t pretend when it comes to your life. He knows how elusive peace becomes when you’ve run out of your own life skills. But His offer is open .. His arms are open .. and His heart is wide open for you. He knows what grief looks like inside of you like no one else. He knows when to back off and when to make His grace so presently abundant so you can truly be embraced by His life. Jesus even knows how difficult it is for you to find a secluded place in your life to be alone with Him. It shouldn’t be hard but it is. There are so many distractions and urgencies pulling at you .. making you think that life hinges on you. It doesn’t…! This same Jesus isn’t looking for actors to play religious roles in front of Him. He’s looking for men and women just like you who will just be themselves. And honestly .. just being yourself sometimes means facing heart revealing moments. Grace doesn’t find its way to play actors. It finds its way to end-of-the-rope lives .. to those who’ve lost the closest things in their lives .. and to those who dare to focus their lives on Christ. So whatever your life is facing today …. It only takes a moment …

“Here’s what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place you won’t be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.” Matt. 6:6 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
