The Holy Spirit .. Pregnant .. and Prayer….

November 22, 2107

“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.” Luke 11:13 Christian Standard

Jesus describes a picture of a friend helping a friend in time of need. That’s who you turn to … a friend .. someone who knows you .. someone who will help because you have a need. He then describes the type of friend your Heavenly Father is. He knows your need, maybe even your desperation. Instead of being cruel He gives you more than you can imagine … the Holy Spirit. And this Spirit is right alongside to help. He untangles your words and deepest wordless thoughts and shapes them into prayer. And prayer is where the Father listens to his daughter or son pour out their hearts. When you can’t wait any longer and your strength has run out .. the Holy Spirit keeps you present before God. You can’t form the words? You can’t believe that God, your Heavenly Father, will understand what you are asking? Can God really work out all the details of your life into something good? This is where Jesus has already walked those steps before you. He knows what you are feeling .. what you long for .. and what your life is with Him in the center. He’s working out the details in love because that is the only way it will truly stick inside you. And like pregnancy … there is pain involved. That Father knows what you are asking. The Son has opened the way. The Holy Spirit is at work in you. It’s not a question of whether you are worth it. Will you trust this Risen Friend? It only takes a moment …

“Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.” Romans 8:26-28 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
