He showed up anyway …

December 6, 2017

“Indeed, an hour is coming, and has come, when each of you will be scattered to his own home, and you will leave me alone.” John 16:32 Christian Standard

What would you do if you knew beforehand that everyone around you would turn their backs on you .. and even blame you for their problems? How would you live your life? Why would you seek to help anyone, if you already knew they would reject you when you most needed them? Everything was created through this Son. He shaped your life in His image. He knows everything about you. He knows your habits .. your longings .. your struggles .. your failures .. your strengths .. and your weaknesses. And even more, He knows the “turn your back on Him” cancer in your heart. He knows the “I don’t know Him” disease of your heart. He knows the “it’s all His fault” accusation in your heart.  And still, Jesus showed up to find you. It doesn’t matter how many voices have accused Him over the course of history. It doesn’t matter how many lives have turned and gone their own way. Jesus found you, opened His hands,  and showed you your scars on His hands. He showed up because you were worth every accusation .. rejection .. hatred .. and the most murderous actions possible. He knows what every man and woman is capable of thinking and doing in their own skin. And still, Jesus knows that the only way back .. the only way forward .. and the only way to find you was to show up looking just like you. Armed with all that knowledge, Jesus loved you even deeper than all your worst moments combined. The cross doesn’t look like love at first. But it destroys all the cancerous hate of your heart so you can be made new in the image of Christ .. made new in grace .. and made new forever. So, armed with all this knowledge, how will you go out today? It only takes a moment…

“We’re all like sheep who’ve wandered off and gotten lost. We’ve all done our own thing, gone or own way. And God has piled all our sins, everything we’ve done wrong, on him, on him.” Isaiah 53:6 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
