“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. … “Today as you listen, this Scripture has been fulfilled.” Luke 4:18-19,21 Christian Standard
They heard him read and declare what no other man before him had dared to say: fulfilled. Hundreds of years were reset with this word: fulfilled. His words are true today .. just as fresh .. just as instant .. just as available. His life and death proclaim a gospel not found or available through any other man or message. The message of Jesus Christ is still the good news to the poor .. still releases captives .. still gives sight .. and still frees lives bound and paralyzed in a sin-filled, sin-infected world. His life is not just a few words handed out indiscriminantly. The life and message of Jesus has power to break the chains of suffocating fear. His life breathes hope into dry and weary hearts. His life is what sets you free. The world around you cannot define this freedom. It doesn’t want you to live and become a messenger of freedom in Christ. Because once you do, all the ways you have lived and tried to define your life fade into a life defined by a miraculous birth .. and directed by a purposeful grace. You’re more than just saved. You’re called into a life that reveals risen evidence of Jesus. You’re called into a life you can’t manufacture on your own. You’re called by Jesus .. not your works .. not your success .. and not your plans. You won’t hear those words except from those who know you in Christ. A miraculous birth .. a rolled up scroll .. nail-scared hands .. and a grace-called life await. It only takes a moment …
“He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began. This has now been made evident through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who has abolished death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.” 2 Timothy 1:9-10 Christian Standard
